MedIQ / Methodology

Three methods. Reconciled. Refreshed quarterly.

MedIQ combines secondary research, primary interviews with surgeons and OT managers, and its own data model — then reconciles them into a single, defensible number per hospital, per specialty, per quarter.

1

Secondary research

Hospital identification & structural attributes.

  • Complete address, ownership
  • Medical college presence
  • City tier & hospital type
  • Total beds, ICU beds, OTs
  • Surgeons by specialty
2

Primary IDIs & surveys

In-depth interviews with key surgeons and OT managers, every quarter.

  • Surgeries performed
  • Share of different surgeries
  • Productivity data (OT days, etc.)
  • Bed-to-OT ratio
  • OT utilisation rate
3

Data modelling

Estimation & allocation across specialties using a surgery index.

  • Total monthly surgeries per hospital
  • OTs × occupancy × utilisation × days
  • Surgery index by specialty
  • Surgeons × productivity × days
4

Quarterly updates

Data expands & self-maintains every quarter.

  • New cities, new hospitals
  • Refresh of surgeon count
  • Refresh of productivity, occupancy
  • Refresh of bed-to-OT, utilisation

Why this matters

Why three methods instead of one?

Each method covers a different blind spot. Together they give you a number you can defend in a commercial plan, a board pack, or a sales-allocation model.

What a single-method study misses

Most hospital data on the market is built from one source and never reconciled — so it looks precise, but isn't.

  • !Secondary only — static, can't capture productivity or real utilisation.
  • !Primary only — small samples, hard to scale to 65 cities and 2,000 hospitals.
  • !Modelling only — sharp-looking numbers without real interview anchoring.
  • !No reconciliation layer — no way to know which number to trust.
